COURT GRANTS EX-FCT MINISTERS' SON PERMISSION TO TRAVEL ABROAD FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT

The son of a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Shamsudeen Mohammed who is facing corruption trial has been granted permission to travel abroad for medical treatment.

Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court, Abuja granted the permission following the application filed by defendant’s counsel, Kanayo Okafor asking the court to release his client’s travel documents.

This is second time Shamsudeen Mohammed who is facing corruption charges is getting the court’s nod to travel abroad.

He had earlier been granted permission by the trial judge, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba to travel to Saudi Arabia for a lesser Hajj.

Through his lawyer, the son of a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory filed application asking the court to release his International Passport to enable him travel for a medical appointment in the United Kingdom.

But the prosecution counsel, Ben Ikani opposed the application insisting that there was no strong evidence to prove that the ailment will not be treated in Nigeria.

In spite of the prosecution’s objection, Justice Dimgba granted the application and ordered the release of the defendant’s travel documents.

The EFCC Counsel had argued that the defendant’s application is nothing but a delay tactics to frustrate the trial.
